Mosquito Control Week from today


The National Mosquito Control Week organised by the Ministry of Health and the Epidemiology Unit will be held countrywide from today (29) until April 4, Health Services Director General Dr. Palitha Mahipala said.
According to Dr. Mahipala it will be held under the direction of Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne and Deputy Minister Fizal Kasim. The National Mosquito Control Week intends to control
the increasing mosquito density in the country, especially the high risk areas before the upcoming rainy season. Dr. Mahipala pointed out that the programme will be implemented by the Health Ministry, Epidemiology Unit, National Dengue Control Programme, Presidential Task Force on Dengue Control, members of the police and armed forces, Civil Defence Force, PHIs, representatives from all line ministries, etc.

All 348 MOH areas have been divided into three zones and 30 high risk areas have already been identified.

The high risk areas are in Colombo, Kalutara, Gampaha, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Galle, Matara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee districts. Around 3,000 teams consisting 20,000 inspectors will be deployed to implement the programme.

They will visit homes in uniforms and with identity cards, he added.
