Government
has decided to abandoned the power cuts during the forthcoming festival
season according to Deputy Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ajith
P. Perera.
“Dry weather conditions experienced in
the country in the past few months lead to decline in the
water levels
in the reservoirs. So, the capacity of hydropower plants went down. Sri
Lanka is affected with a power crisis after the country experienced
three total blackouts within three months along with the dry weather
conditions. The government has taken a decision not to go for more coal
power plants beyond Norochcholai and Sampur, and shift to renewable
energy, Deputy Minister added.
