Health Department of the Colombo Municipal Council (PHD-CMC) exposed a
racket carried out by individuals claiming to be CMC employees to obtain
money from eatery owners in the city.
According to the, PHD they had received
several complaints from eatery owners during the past few weeks. The
individuals telephoned eatery owners identifying themselves PHIs and
food inspectors attached to the PHD and demanded money which the
businessmen were asked to transfer via mobile phones. The racketeers
pretended to be in trouble.
PHD urged eatery owners to beware of the racketeers and contact the PHD via hotline – 011 2676161 if anyone called them soliciting bribes.
