The Ministry of Health urged the public to refrain from using cotton buds and other objects to clean ear wax.
Health Ministry warned that it was
always best to seek medical assistance when dealing with ear problems.
By trying to attend to it by one self he/she would only aggravate the
situation as he/she would be blindly using an ear bud, a hair pin or
even a safety pin to clean the ear.
Removing ear wax with a bud can leave the skin of the ear feeling irritated. Wax consists of a mixture of exfoliated skin and secretions and is produced in the outer third of the ear canal. Some people produce large amounts, which can affect hearing, especially if the wax becomes waterlogged and expands - after swimming, for example. Excessive ear wax tends to run in families. It is best treated by having the ears syringed with warm water under medical supervision.
